What is Chinese herbalism?
Chinese herbal medicine is part of the
ancient system of TCM, which after 5,000 years of practice in its
homeland has taken the West by storm.
Chinese herbalism involves using herbs
to treat and prevent mental, physical and emotional ill
health. Together with acupuncture, it forms the bulk of Chinese
medical treatment. The number of Chinese doctors who use herbs
exclusively is greater than those who use only acupuncture. Herbalism
can support acupuncture or be used as a standalone treatment for conditions such as viral infections and blood disorders like anaemia or menstrual
Herbs also strengthen those people who
are too weak for acupuncture. Acupuncture works with the body’s
own energy, but very weak patients have little energy with which to
work, so the response may not be very good. Herbal treatment,
however, adds nourishment to the body. For those who want Chinese
treatment but hate needles, herbs also prove invaluable.
How many sessions do I need?
The length of treatment will vary
depending on the severity of the condition and how long you have had
it. In some cases you can expect a good response in 2 to 3 weeks.
Serious or chronic illness, especially those that have been
suppressed by years of drug treatment, will need several weeks of
treatment to show any improvement, and maybe months for any
Which problems can it help?
The World Health Organization (WHO) has
published a list of ailments that can benefit from Chinese herbalism.
- Hay fever
Also on that extensive list：
- Premenstrual syndrome (PMS)
The way for making and using herbs
One bag of herbal medicine can be used
for one day. You can start from the evening, for example: tonight,
you can put one bag of herbs into a deep stainless steel, non-stick
pan, add 1 pint (about 3 cups) of cold water in and bring to the boil for
1 minute and simmer for 30 minutes. You can get 1 cup of herbal tea
out of this. Drain the tea into a cup, but do not throw the herbs away, you can boil it again for the second cup of herbal tea.
Adds 2 cups of cold water into the pan,
bring to the boil and simmer for 20 minutes, and you can get the second cup
of herbal tea. Throw the herbs away, drink the first cup of herbal
tea tonight, and keep the second cup of tea in the fridge. On the
following morning, warm it and drink it.
How much does it cost?
£5.00-£7.00 per unit (treatment for 1/2 days)
